Girly Things: A Curvy Font for Creative Projects

There I was, staring at a blank brand board, trying to figure out how to make a new skincare line feel both elegant and approachable. The client wanted something that felt personal, almost like a handwritten note from a friend. That’s when I pulled out Girly Things, a lovely handwritten font that will make your work stand out through its elegant and curvy lines.

The Personality of Girly Things

Girly Things has this soft, playful energy that feels right at home in creative spaces. Its curves are smooth and flowing, with just enough variation to keep things interesting without becoming chaotic. It doesn’t shout, but it definitely commands attention. The font feels like it was written with a pen, not a keyboard, which gives it that authentic, handmade quality.

It’s perfect for branding projects that want to feel more human. Whether it's a boutique identity or a small business looking to stand out, Girly Things adds a touch of warmth and personality. But don’t let the cutesy vibe fool you—it can be professional too, especially when paired with the right design elements.

Testing Girly Things in Real Projects

I tested Girly Things on a logo draft for a local café. The font worked well as a headline, giving the brand a friendly, inviting feel. On a packaging mockup, it added a nice contrast against more rigid typefaces, making the product feel more unique. On a business card, it stood out without being overwhelming, especially when used in a smaller size.

For social media layouts, Girly Things made headlines pop. It was great for Instagram posts and Facebook banners, where visual impact is key. But I noticed that when used in longer text, like captions or descriptions, it started to lose some clarity. That’s why I tend to use it as a display or accent font rather than for body text.

When to Use Girly Things

Girly Things shines in situations where visual appeal is important. It’s ideal for logos, headers, and short phrases that need to grab attention. It works well in packaging design, especially for products targeting a younger, more fashion-conscious audience. For editorial design, it can add a touch of whimsy to magazine covers or promotional materials.

However, it’s not the best choice for long-form content. In web design, using it for body text could hurt readability, especially on smaller screens. For formal corporate projects, it might come across as too casual. That said, if the brand’s personality leans into creativity and charm, it can still be a strong choice.

Font Pairing and Design Considerations

Pairing Girly Things with other fonts can help balance its playful nature. A clean sans serif like Montserrat or a classic serif like Georgia can provide contrast and improve readability. When used alongside a modern typography system, it adds a unique flair without clashing.

For print projects, I recommend testing the font at different sizes to ensure it looks good in all applications. It performs well in larger formats like posters and signage, but may need adjustments for smaller details like product labels or business cards.

Practical Tips for Using Girly Things

If you're considering using Girly Things in client work, start by testing it in a few different contexts. Create a mockup, try it on a logo, and see how it interacts with other design elements. Pay attention to how it looks on different backgrounds and in various sizes.

Also, check the font licensing before using it in commercial projects. Make sure it’s allowed for use in branding, packaging, websites, or digital products. Some fonts have restrictions that could limit your creative freedom.

Girly Things is a great addition to any designer’s toolkit, especially for projects that benefit from a personal, handcrafted touch. It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution, but when used thoughtfully, it can elevate a design in a way that feels fresh and original.
